The Royal residence was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. Back then it was known just as Buckingham House. In 1762, George III bought the property and used it as his private residence. Sadly, the actual Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre was closed down by Puritans in 1642. Two years later it was demolished. Fortunately, there is a faithful reproduction just a stone’s throw away from the original site.

Hyde Park is probably the oldest recreational ground in London. The 140-hectare area has gardens and woods, boat rides, concerts and some good pubs and restaurants nearby. There is a pet cemetery.
