How to Eat Well in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, USA Add comments

Just a few years ago, Las Vegas was not what you would consider a gourmet’s dining destination. Vegas food had to be cheap to lure the crowds and to get guests to spend more in the casinos. So you could get a $2 steak, but it would barely be edible. And those inexpensive ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffets were no better.

But Las Vegas has re-invented itself as a city. One good change: better restaurant offerings.

You will still find cheap food if that’s what you are after. But if you’re up for some fine dining, Las Vegas now has restaurants you would expect to find in New York or Paris. Now considered a restaurateur’s town, it has attracted some of the world’s best chefs. From good, simple food in Planet Hollywood to Emeril’s fine creations, you’ll find something to satisfy your palate.

Craving for French bistro food? Bouchon at The Venetian is a popular choice. Not only is the food excellent, it is value-for-money dining. The Bouchon’s well-stocked bar, private rooms and plush atmosphere complete a fine dining experience, Las Vegas style.

For 4-star French fare, there’s Le Cirque. Just like its original counterpart, Le Cirque Las Vegas has everything Le Cirque New York is famous for. The Vegas restaurant also serves their to-die-for lobster. You can also get the heirloom tomato soup livened up with morel mushrooms.

The distinct circus-themed decor in an intimate, hushed setting makes Le Cirque the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two. Come dressed appropriately though, and nix the usual Vegas casual.

A visit in the Planet Hollywood Resort would not be complete without stopping by Commander’s Palace. Here is where you’ll get some of the best sea food in town. Known for its New Orleans roots, you can enjoy many cajun and creole offerings. Fine dining here comes with fine ambiance. Elegant cream and black decor accented with gold gives a visual treat to go with the gustatory.

The fine food comes at a price though. Still, many happy diners claim it’s worth it. The tasso shrimp henican appetizer, for example, could be a meal all its own. For a taste of the exotic, there’s turtle soup. The pork loin with cayenne catsup is a good entree if you’re ready to pig out. And don’t skip dessert. This Vegas food haunt is also known for its bread pudding.

If a good steak is what you’re looking for, The Tillerman is where you should go. This restaurant is a Las Vegas classic, serving great food for the last 25 years. Here, the fish is also a good as the steak, along with many other choices for the whole family. For adults, the impressive wine list offers vintages from California to Spain, even Argentina and South Africa.

The famous Planet Hollywood is where you can get good old American fare. You’ll find this American classic inside the equally iconic Caesars Palace Las Vegas. Here you’ll get your fill of great burgers, sandwiches and gourmet pizza. You can enjoy the food in the unique Planet Hollywood setting, which it is so famous for.  Before you go, don’t forget to grab desert. They’re also known for their Ghirardelli chocolate brownie.

To cap your Las Vegas food adventure, it would be a good idea to have lunch or dinner at Wolfgang Puck’s Bar & Grill inside the MGM Grand. Here, fast food has been re-defined. Great, simple flavors a’la Chef Puck in the signature California-style setting. Do not skip the crab cakes - they’re my favorites!

Now go plan your desert city trip, and make sure all these Las Vegas flavors become part of your adventure.
